Touch grass, properly: why a walk beats another scroll

Everyone has been told to touch grass. Usually online, usually by someone who has been arguing in the comments for three hours. It’s a joke, but it’s also good advice.

Scrolling feels like rest. It isn’t. Your attention is working the whole time, sorting, reacting, waiting for the next thing worth stopping for.

Time outside works differently. Nothing is competing for you. Your eyes get a long view, your pace slows down, and your brain finally gets to idle.

You don’t need a mountain. A park, a field, a street with trees on it will do. What matters is going often, and leaving the phone in your pocket while you’re there.
